MiWay Five is the plan for evolving public transit in Mississauga over the five years from 2016 to 2020. MiWay has retained the services of IBI Group to undertake a strategic transit service planning study that will provide a comprehensive review of where transit operates, when it operates, and how frequently. This study will position MiWay to take a more significant role in meeting the transportation needs of the City over the next five years and establish a foundation for the future growth of transit.
The key objectives of this study are to:
Review and assess the existing transit route and service network in light of current and future transit needs in Mississauga;
Position MiWay to meet not just the current needs of travel within and through Mississauga, but also address and accommodate the future needs of the City as it continues to grow;
Link to and help deliver the objectives of the City’s strategic plan;
Integrate with the Mississauga Transitway and plans for a future LRT line on Hurontario Street; and
Increase ridership in accordance with the City’s objective to become increasingly “transit-oriented”.
The study timeline is approximately 15 months. It is expect that a draft report and recommendations will be available in spring 2015.
Transit continues to evolve in Mississauga and phase 1 of the Transitway has now opened. In anticipation MiWay has launched a public study that will provide a comprehensive review of where transit operates, when it operates, and how frequently. Once completed, the plan will define MiWay’s service standards for the next five years and set the stage for future transit expansion.
We are now is Phase 2 – Public feedback to gather opinions from Mississauga residents on transit network plan options. Residents and business owners are invited to provide feedback through MetroQuest (an interactive online public engagement survey) and through invitation to participate in targeted focus groups. We encourage you to visitmiway.metroquest.ca between November 7 and December 7, 2014 to participate in the MiWay 5 survey.
We also welcome you to share the survey link with friends, family or contacts throughout Mississauga to encourage more participation.
