Dear Friends and Neighbours, As we close out 2013 and begin a new year, we should take a moment to reflect on the successes of our community and be thankful for the commitment of our volunteers and citizens. Ward One has been a very busy place the past twelve months, garnering several awards for outstanding achievement in every category of neighbourhood capacity building. You can all be proud of the contributions you have made to our special Ward.
For the second year in a row our gardening enthusiasts have been awarded top spot in the City for beautifying lawns and gardens. Also for the second year in row we have been recognized as the “Greenest Ward”, Mississauga’s environmental honour. Our Bio Swale pilot projects on First and Third Streets were recognized by the Credit Valley Conservation Authority for their leading edge storm water technology.
The Port Credit BIA, garnered a well deserved Award of Merit at the recent Urban Design Awards for the Cultural Node Project. The pilot introduced sidewalk patios, boardwalks, a Music Walk of Fame and public art to the village. Participating restaurants realized sales increases from twenty five to one hundred percent summer over summer.
2014 promises to be another active year in the Ward. A new Westacres Pool will be opening in late spring. Lakeshore Rd. culverts at Serson and Applewood Creeks will be upgraded to capture run off from storm events. The bicycle bridge at Ogden over the QEW will be rebuilt and the harbour in Port Credit will be dredged. Restoration is set to begin on the Small Arms Building. Inspiration Port Credit and Inspiration Lakeview will be completed in 2014, mapping a sustainable path for our future. These are only a few of the positive initiatives that will be realized in the coming year.
From my family to yours, thank you for being a part of our community, and may the coming year bring you happiness and love to share.
