The tendency when suffering from arthritis is to keep your joints as motionless as possible. The problem is that this leads to weakening of the muscles and tendons and a stiffening of joints, which makes the pain worse over time. It is a self-feeding cycle difficult to break out of.
The study, published in the Journal of Aging and Physical Activity, found that exercise, particularly strength training, affected mood in individuals over 62. According to Arent, one reason for that is what strength training does for seniors' self-esteem. "Strength training prevents loss of muscle mass and bone density, conditions that can interfere with the independence and quality of life of an older person," he says. "Mundane tasks that were once difficult, such as grocery shopping, are no longer an issue." And when an older person can resume abandoned physical activities, like playing with grand-kids or gardening, it's amazing how quickly his or her depression lifts.
1. The jumping up and down motion involved in exercising on a rebounder is the best way to stimulate your lymphatic (immune) system. Your body’s lymph system consists of tubes containing lymphatic fluid. The tubes have one-way valves built into them. Each bounce opens and closes these valves, causing the lymphatic fluid to be pumped and circulated properly. Exercising on a mini trampoline is by far the best way to improve the lymphatic system. It is highly recommended for cancer patients and anyone with a suppressed immune system.
