Preservation of Oak Tree at Millgrove Park
Residents of Millers Grove are familiar with the lovely old oak trees in the park at Tours and Millers Grove. This park location is unique due to these large majestic Burr Oak trees that are a true landmark in our community.
I had an onsite meeting with Forestry staff in August to discuss the fate of this old oak tree pictured above. It is located beside the playground at Millers Grove and Tours.
As you can see the tree is totally dead and is starting to rot from the inside.Staff have managed to keep it alive through care and pruning and we had hoped that when it eventually had to come down we could have it carved to remain as an art structure. At this time, we are unsure if it is viable for carving but I am confident we can retain part of the tree in some form that will compliment the area.
Work will be scheduled to remove all the branches and the trunk down to just below the lowest branch. At that time it will be assessed to see what can be done. If you have seen any trees that have been cut low and have been re-purposed please share with me..I am open to all ideas. Please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org with your suggestions.
What an exciting summer with Mississauga hosting the 2016 Ontario Summer Games from August 11 - 14.
Working on the host committee, I got to see how hard our staff worked behind the scenes organizing and keeping things running.
Our volunteers were just simply amazing!!! We are so lucky to have had almost 1000 volunteers and of course the 3,500 athletes that participated were outstanding - some future stars emerged throughout the competitions!
Remember that you can place unlimited amounts of garbage out for collection on your garbage cart collection day following Labour Day.
Garbage bag tags are not required during exemption periods and there is no maximum amount of acceptable garbage you can put on the curb. Click here to check your garbage exemption day.

The final section of Britannia Road, from Winston Churchill Blvd. to Erin Mills Parkway will be rehabilitated in 2017. This work will includeconstruction of a concrete sidewalk on the south side of Britannia Road from Paddle Road to Glen Erin Drive.
The existing sidewalk on the north side of Britannia Road from WCB to EMP will be replaced with a 2.5 - 3.0 meter (8 - 10 foot) asphalt multi use trail. I have asked staff to maintain the road side ditches/shallow swale along Britannia Road if possible to incorporate more environmentally friendly drainage systems.
Revised February 10, 2016
The Ministry of Transportation has advised that repair work is being done on the underpass of Erin Mills Parkway at the 403. The work will start in May 2016 and go until fall 2016.
