The Downspout Debate Is Almost Over

Thank you to all who contacted me over the last few months regarding their concerns and questions on the Mandatory Downspout Disconnection Program.

Good news Mississauga!  On February 25, 2016, The Peel Regional Council approved a new direction for the program that consists of the following changes:

  • For the foreseeable future, this program will be strictly voluntary, and NOT mandatory!
  • Where it is confirmed through "smoke testing" that a pre-1975 home and/or previously flooded home is connected to the sanitary sewer system, residents will be offered to have disconnections completed by a third party contractor hired and paid for by the Region of Peel.

The Sanitary Backwater Valve Rebate Program will be extended to the end of 2016 for homes in flood-prone areas.

Please note that this program is not related to the City of Mississauga Storm Water Charge.

There will be more information available in the coming weeks. In the meantime, please contact me if you have any questions.
