Commencing in January 2016, the Region of Peel will be switching to bi-weekly waste collection. In addition to this, all house-dwelling residents will be sent pre-chosen carts for their recycling and garbage and the standard cart for organic waste.
Even though we are being switched to a bi-weekly schedule, our organic waste (the stinkiest of our waste) will still be picked up every week. The recycling and the garbage carts will alternate bi-weekly.
Prior to implementing this new system, the Region of Peel carried out a yearlong pilot project and the end results were very favourable to a bi-weekly schedule. The Region will reduce costs by switching as well as reduce the amount of waste sent to the landfill overall. As residents, the carts will prove to be more convenient that the traditional garbage bags as the carts are easy to wheel down your driveway. The new carts will prevent litter from being blown down your street and are pet-resistant, which will keep your neighbourhood looking clean and tidy.
More information can be found on the Region of Peel’s web-site here.
